Ruto to fly Kevin Masagara and Useful Idioty to UK for Manchester United and Arsenal games
By Valerian Khakayi, February 16, 2026President William Ruto has pledged to sponsor two Kenyan football superfans to the United Kingdom to watch their favourite English Premier League clubs live.
The light-hearted promise was made during a casual football conversation outside State House in Nairobi, where Ruto and Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) Phelix Odiwour, widely known as Jalang’o, were joking about their club loyalties.
In a video shared on his official social media channels on Monday, February 16, 2026, Jalang’o brought up a football digital content creator, who is also a passionate Manchester United supporter, known as Kevin Masagara
“Kuna kijana anaitwa Masagara, Masagara is Kenya’s number one Manchester fan na anataka kuenda Old Trafford. He has never watched Manchester play live and he is the number one supporter. Jalang’o told Ruto during their conversation.
Ruto, who openly declared his allegiance to the Gunners, responded in jest and asked the MP to find the comedian Useful Idioty, also an Arsenal fan, so that he could sponsor him as well.
“Unajua mimi ni fan wa Arsenal, na sasa unaniambia maneno ya Manchester United, basi tafadhali tafuta Useful Idioty, huyo jamaa nataka pia nimsponsor,” Ruto said.
“Kama umekubali Useful Idioty aende Emerits basi mimi pia nitasponsor huyo Masagara aende Old Trafford.”
Details of the sponsorship
The president further said that he will fully cover their travel and accommodation expenses, making it a lifetime experience for the two of the football fanatics.
“Wacha niwanunulie business class ticket na niwalipie accommodation,” Ruto added.
Ruto even promised to make the experience memorable for the two fans.
