Wambua names name 12-man Shujaa squad for Africa Men’s Sevens tournament in Mauritius

Kenya’s national men’s sevens team, Shujaa, will travel to Mauritius on Thursday, October 1, 2026, ahead of the Africa Men’s Sevens tournament scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, 3–4 October, 2026.
Ahead of the showpiece, head coach Kevin Wambua has selected a 12-man squad for the competition, which will be held at the SPARC International Rugby Stadium in Cascavelle.
Kenya has been drawn in Pool B alongside Namibia, Réunion and Madagascar in the second leg of the restructured 2026 Africa Men’s Sevens Series.
Wambua has introduced four new faces to the national team, with Patrick Sabatia, Glacious Owino, Dennis Livoi and Lucky Onyango earning their first Shujaa call-ups.
Their selection follows impressive performances during the recently completed National Sevens Circuit.
Elvis Olukusi and Rayvon Ambale will share captaincy duties as Kenya seeks a strong showing in Mauritius.
The squad also features experienced players Gabriel Ayimba and Brian Mutua, while Clinton Amukwachi, David Nyangige, Arnold Agonda and Victor Odhiambo return to the Shujaa setup.

The squad reflects Kenya’s continued strategy of combining established international players with youngsters emerging through the domestic sevens circuit.
Kenya remains among Africa’s leading sevens nations, with the revised 2026 Rugby Africa rankings placing the East Africans and South Africa in the top two positions. The Mauritius event will also help determine the standings of the teams below the top two.
Shujaa’s Pool B fixtures
Kenya will begin its campaign against Namibia on Saturday, 3 October,2026 with kick-off scheduled for 8:44 am EAT.
Wambua’s side will then face Réunion at 11:50 am before completing its pool matches against Madagascar at 2:40 pm.
The tournament will offer Shujaa an important opportunity to gain competitive international exposure ahead of the 28th edition of Safari7s.
Kenya will host Safari7s at Nyayo National Stadium from 9–11 October, 2026, just days after the Mauritius assignment.
