New venue for Gor Mahia-Sofapaka clash confirmed

The Football Kenya Federation Premier League Week 19 clash pitting Gor Mahia against Sofapaka FC has been moved to a new venue.

The clash initially slated for the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, has been moved to the Nyayo National Stadium.

The venue change has been confirmed by Sofapaka FC, who will be the away team for the tie.

Venue change

“Please note that the venue will be Nyayo Stadium and not Kasarani,” part of Sofapaka’s statement read.

The tie will see Gor Mahia seek to assert dominance against the struggling outfit, who remain second to the bottom in the league.

As part of the preparation ahead of the encounter, Charles Akonnor’s boys held a light friendly match against a low-tier outfit, Kuta Selection, where the FKF PL side triumphed 5-1.

The Ghanaian duo of George Amonno (brace) and Essombe were on target, with Samuel Kapen also helping himself to a double.

Gor Mahia’s title charge was on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, further boosted by the return of midfielder Ben Stanley heading into Saturday’s match.

A club statement released on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, stated that the Harambee Stars ace joined the team from an injury for training sessions ahead of the fixture.

The return of the former Homeboyz player adds to the positive team news for Gor Mahia, who similarly welcomes back defender Geoffrey Ochieng and Lawrence Juma from long-term injury layoffs.

The two resumed training with the team after a long-term injury layoff and could be in contention for the matchday squad, as advised by the technical bench.

The pair, especially the latter, will come in handy for the clash as Gor seeks to extend their winning streak and stay at the summit of the league.
