Boost for Gor Mahia as key midfielder returns ahead of Sofapaka encounter
Record Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia have been handed a massive boost as creative midfielder Ben Stanley returns ahead of a league encounter against Sofapaka on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Based on the club statement released on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the Harambee Stars ace joined the team from an injury for training sessions ahead of the fixture as K’Ogalo aim to cement their position at the helm of league standings.

Ben Stanley returns
”Ben Stanley is back. The midfielder has returned to full training following his recovery from an injury he picked up two weeks ago,” the club said in a statement.
However, as Ben Stanley returns, the club’s current top scorer with seven goals, Felix Oluoch, is sidelined indefinitely with a knee injury, requiring specialist consultation and careful management.
In a statement released on Sunday, January 25, 2026, Gor Mahia stated that team Doctor, Brian Odongo, confirmed Felix is suffering from patellar tendinopathy. The injury has been a lingering concern.
Odongo confirmed the diagnosis and outlined the recovery plan: “Phelix sustained a knee injury and has been diagnosed with patellar tendinopathy. He is currently undergoing medical management and physical rehabilitation,” Odongo stated.
“The medical team will continue to monitor his progress closely, and his return to play will be determined based on his recovery and response to treatment,” he said.
Akonnor’s sentiments

Speaking on the same, head coach Charles Akonnor emphasised Oluoch’s importance to the squad while prioritising the player’s health.
“Felix had to sit out during yesterday’s match (against Bidco United) because of the injury. I was briefed by the team doctor, and we will also be seeking a specialist opinion on the way forward. As it is, he can’t play,” said Akonnor.
“He is a very important player, and his well-being is key. We will take all steps to have him back in good shape.” The tactician added.
The club now has to work with the available options of attackers as Felix undergoes the management process.
Gor Mahia is currently leading the 2025/26 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season table standings with 36 points, with AFC Leopards coming in closely in position two with a similar amount of points but with a weaker goal difference.
