Murang’a Seal interim coach Odhiambo cries foul over Gor Mahia throw-in antics

Murang’a Seal’s interim coach, Dennis Odhiambo, hit out at Gor Mahia’s throwing antics during their Sunday, May 17, 2026, league loss against the Football Kenya Federation leaders at Nyayo National Stadium.

Speaking after the 3-1 loss, Odhiambo decried Gor’s tendency to pick their throw-ins at designated points, claiming that they oftentimes took them from advanced positions.

One of Gor Mahia’s goals came from the set pieces as Shariff Musa’s well-taken strike gave them a 52nd-minute lead that the club never looked back on.

Refs ought to listen

“That performance from the team was a good one, and according to how we planned. We had issues with how Gor Mahia approached their throw-ins: they were making them far away from the position where the ball had gone out, and our complaints to the officials fell on deaf ears. It is good if the match officials lend a listening ear,” he stated.

The gaffer, however, acknowledged Gor’s might in the offensive areas, adding that their quest to limit them in that regard was hampered by an injury to one of his full-backs.

“We also had to remove our left-back and opt to play a makeshift player, and Gor capitalised on that.”

On a positive note, the former international lauded the general display, describing it as one with plenty for the team to pick up from heading into their final couple of games.

Seal are looking to snap a poor spate of results after failing to win a single game in their recent run. Odhiambo has, however, backed the team to come good after the morale-boosting show against the division’s standout team.

“Lots of positives to pick from the game, though. I believe the team is gaining back their mojo to play confidently after a tough recent run, and I am happy with the performance and not the results,” he stated.

The clash saw Gor Mahia edge closer to wrapping up what has been a tense title race between them and challengers AFC Leopards, who also won on Saturday against Kakamega Homeboyz to stretch the league race to the final two games.
