Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga’s season has been cut short, with the talisman ruled out for the remainder of the season due to injury.

Qatari club Al Arabi SC confirmed the worrying development on Thursday, April 2, 2026. The injury has been caused by a pelvic discomfort.

According to the club, Olunga underwent corrective surgery in France and has since started his rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation

“Our player, Michael Olunga, suffered a pelvic injury. He underwent successful surgery this morning in Paris, France,” Al Arabi’s medical report read.

“The player is expected to be sidelined for eight weeks, during which time he will undergo a rehabilitation program under the supervision of the club’s medical staff. Get Well Soon,” Al Arabi’s statement continued.

News of the striker’s injury layoff comes after he was among the ten players who pulled out of Benni McCarthy’s squad for the international action for the concluded FIFA Series on March 27, 2026.

Olunga has been out of action since the suspension of the Qatar Super League back on March 1, 2026, and was poised to link up with his teammates for international duty before the initial injury setback

Out of contention

With the next men’s FIFA international window scheduled for early June, Olunga’s club will be the hardest hit with his absence, as the league resumption comes with a congested schedule after the month-long disruption.

A league clash against Al Shahaniya SC, currently in progress, is among the monthly engagements the Kenyan will miss. He will also sit out home clashes against Qatar SC on April 8, 2026, and vs. Al-Sailiya SC on April 13, 2026.

The team is already out of contention for the league title, ranked in sixth place in the standings.

Cosmin Contra’s team is nine points behind leaders Al Sadd with three games to conclude the season.
