Messi scores 4 as Inter Miami crush Montréal 7-1 in record-breaking MLS win

Inter Miami produced a remarkable attacking display on Sunday morning, August 30, 2026, thrashing CF Montréal 7-1 in an MLS regular-season encounter at Nu Stadium.
The emphatic victory marked the biggest winning margin in Inter Miami’s history, with Lionel Messi stealing the spotlight after scoring four times. Casemiro and Luis Suárez also found the net, while academy graduate Alexander Shaw celebrated his first goal for the club’s senior team.
The result leaves Inter Miami with 12 victories, four defeats and six draws from their 22 league matches, giving them 42 points.
Casemiro gives Miami the perfect start
Inter Miami took control in the 20th minute when Casemiro opened the scoring with his first goal since joining the club.
The midfielder rose highest inside the penalty area to meet Telasco Segovia’s corner from the left, directing his header beyond the Montréal goalkeeper.
Segovia’s delivery earned him his ninth assist of the MLS campaign.

Montréal, however, responded before the break. Fabian Herbers restored parity in the 37th minute, setting up an intriguing finish to the opening half.
Messi then reclaimed the advantage for the home side just three minutes later.
The Argentine captain stepped up to take a free kick from the right side and produced a superb finish to put Inter Miami 2-1 ahead. The strike was his 15th MLS goal of the campaign at that stage.
Messi takes over
Messi doubled his tally in the 52nd minute as Inter Miami began to pull away.
The 39-year-old produced an individual moment of brilliance, weaving past three Montréal defenders before finding the net from the right side of the penalty area.
The visitors struggled to contain Miami’s attacking threat as the home side continued to create openings.
Luis Suárez eventually made it 4-1 in the 80th minute after Inter Miami broke forward at pace.
Messi was again at the heart of the move, threading an accurate pass into Suárez’s path and allowing the Uruguayan forward to finish from inside the box.
Suárez’s goal took his MLS tally to 11 for the season, while Messi registered his 10th league assist.
Messi completes rout
Inter Miami then turned an already convincing victory into a historic one during the final stages.
Messi completed his hat-trick in the 83rd minute when he calmly lifted the ball over the goalkeeper with a composed chip.
The Argentine superstar was not finished.

In the sixth minute of stoppage time, Messi struck another free kick into the net to complete his four-goal performance.
The late effort moved his league tally to 18 goals and sent him to the top of the MLS Golden Boot standings.
Academy graduate Alexander Shaw also joined the celebrations, scoring in the 89th minute to register his first goal for Inter Miami’s senior side and his maiden MLS goal.
With no further response from Montréal, Inter Miami comfortably saw out the contest and secured a memorable 7-1 triumph.
