Football Kenya Federation Premier League club Mathare United has confirmed the signing of Musingu High School goalkeeper Boaz Muchiri to strengthen the backline of the 2008 league winners.

The young custodian is the Slum Boys‘ third signing from the school and their ninth acquisition overall during the mid-season transfer window that closed on Monday, February 2, 2026.

”The club is pleased to confirm that it was able to get over the line, the signing of goalkeeper Boaz Muchiri, before the January transfer window came to a close yesterday. Welcome to Mathare, Shiri,”Mathare United said in a statement on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

Muchiri joins Mathare United as the club struggles to gain a footing in the league standings. It was not to be for John Kamau’s men on Saturday, January 31, 2026, as the outfit closed out the month with a 2-1 loss to KCB in a tightly contested league encounter at Kasarani Annex.

Taking to the pitch for a fourth successive time, the Slumboys were unable to hold on to an early lead as they fell 2-1 to the Bankers. Former United defender Victor Odhiambo scored into his own net after 23 minutes, blasting home an inviting ball into the area by Isaac Omweri, to give Mathare the lead.

December Kisakah would restore parity right before halftime, and almost immediately after the restart, Amaton Samunya would score what turned out to be the winner for KCB.

The result ended a run of two matches without defeat and saw the Slum Boys remain in 12th place in the standings with 22 points. Three changes were made to the team that drew with Posta Rangers last time out, with new signing Daglas Mokaya earning his first start.

It was, however, another new signing, Omweri, who created Mathare United’s best chances early on. Another inviting ball into the area, after some great work down the right flank by the winger, agonisingly rolled across the face of the goal on 35 minutes, evading everyone who tried to make contact.

Musa Masika also came close on several occasions in both halves. Late on, centre referee Isaac Hamisi had some questionable calls, one being failure to award a penalty when John Makwata, bearing down on goal, was impeded in the area by Odhiambo.
