KRU names Shujaa squad for Nairobi leg of 2026 HSBC SVNS Division 2
Kenya Rugby Union has unveiled the national men’s sevens rugby team, Shujaa, squad for the 2026 HSBC SVNS Division Two tournament, set to take place on Saturday, February 14, and Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
The home event offers Shujaa a crucial opportunity to impress in front of their fans as they chase a strong campaign in the global sevens circuit. Backed by passionate local support, the team will be aiming to turn Nyayo National Stadium into a fortress and secure vital points in the standings.
Selected squad
The selected squad blends experience and youthful energy, with George Ooro and Samuel Asati named co-captains to lead the side. They will be joined by John Okoth, Dennis Abukuse, Vincent Onyala, Kevin Wekesa, Patrick Odongo, Festus Shiasi, Nygel Amaitsa, Floyd Wabwire, Chrisant Ojwang, and David Nyangige.

Veteran campaigners Vincent Onyala and Patrick Odongo add invaluable experience to the group, while rising talents such as Amaitsa, Wekesa and Shiasi are expected to inject pace, creativity and dynamism into the team’s play.
The technical bench will be led by head coach Kevin Wambua, assisted by Louis Kisia, with Andrew Amonde in charge of strength and conditioning. Eric Ogweno will serve as team manager, while Lamech Bogonko takes up the role of physiotherapist, ensuring the players are in peak condition for the demanding two-day tournament.

Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Chairperson Harriet Okach has described the beckoning HSBC SVNS Division Two tournament set to be staged at the Nyayo Stadium on Saturday, February 14, and Sunday, February 15, 2026, as a rugby tourney that will showcase Kenya as a sports tourism hub.
Speaking on a local TV interview on Monday, February 9, 2026, with both the Kenya Lionesses and Shujaa primed to fly the national flag high on home soil, Okach expressed optimism that the Kenyan teams will give their all in Nairobi.
”This tournament will enable us to showcase Kenya as a sports tourism destination as well as a sporting nation. Let’s expect a lot of action. I believe in them, and I know they’ve put in their all,” she said.
The highly anticipated event will bring together some of the world’s top rugby sevens nations, giving local fans a rare chance to watch elite international rugby in Nairobi.
