Gor Mahia gift coach Akonnor a brand-new SUV car

Record Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia have upgraded head coach Charles Akonnor’s official vehicle.
The club management secured a new SUV for the Ghanaian tactician.
The Kenyan champions announced the development through their social media platforms on Sunday, August 16, 2026, describing the new vehicle as a step up from the saloon car previously used by the coach.
“Upgrading from a saloon car to an SUV machine…The club management has secured a new ride for head coach Charles Akonnor; he can now roll in style and comfort as he leads the team. Coach wao amepewa gari kama hii ama bora ni gari tu? We are Mahia,” the club said briefly.
Akonnor gets new ride
According to Gor Mahia, Akonnor will now have a more spacious and comfortable vehicle as he continues his work with the club after threatening to expose his backstabbers and cut links with the Football Kenya Federation Premier League defending champions.
Recently, Akonnor shared the challenges he has been facing at Gor Mahia, revealing that there is a group of club insiders fighting him behind the scenes, despite guiding the team to clinch their record 22nd KPL title in his first season with the club. He also helped Gor Mahia reach the final of the 2026 CECFA Kagame Cup in Rwanda, where the regional bigwigs eventually lost to Rayon Sports of Rwanda.
Akonnor feted
After steering Gor Mahia to their 22nd Premier League crown, Akonnor was named the FKF Premier League Coach of the Season.
The accolade capped a remarkable debut campaign for the gaffer, who took the reins at K’Ogalo months before the season kicked off.
In his first season as head coach, Akonnor not only delivered the league title but also rewrote the team’s tactical identity, guiding them to the summit with a commanding five-point cushion over bitter rivals AFC Leopards.
Under Akonnor’s stewardship across 34 league matches, Gor Mahia proved to be a model of consistency and efficiency. The record shows 20 wins, nine draws and a mere five losses, a statistic that underscores their dominance in a highly competitive season.
On the attacking front, his side found the back of the net 50 times, while the defensive organisation, marshalled by Akonnor’s tactical discipline, conceded only 22 goals. The final points tally stood at an impressive 69, sealing the title in style.
“This award belongs to the players, the technical team and the entire Gor Mahia family,” Akonnor said after receiving the honour.
“To win the title in my first season is special, but to do it with a margin like this is a testament to everyone’s hard work.” He said.
Meanwhile, Charles Akonnor is preparing Gor Mahia for another busy football calendar that includes CAF Champions League assignments.
