FKF Premier League clubs agree on the 2026/27 season kickoff
By Joel Masibo, September 16, 2026Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed has held talks with clubs participating in the FKF League, where the club representatives agreed on the start of the 2026/27 season on Saturday, September 19, 2026 after a long delay.

According to Mohammed meeting focused on strengthening cooperation among the federation and clubs as they work towards a smooth and competitive season.
Mohammed said the discussions were productive and expressed confidence in the commitment shown by the participating teams.
“I am encouraged by the spirit of collaboration and the fruitful deliberations we held,” Mohammed said.
He added that the federation and clubs share a common objective of delivering a league that meets the expectations of its various stakeholders.
“We are united in our resolve to ensure a competitive, credible, and exciting season for all the stakeholders,” he said.
The new campaign is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, September 19, 2026 following the resolution of the recent impasse surrounding the league.
The start date comes after a court ruling delivered on August 28, 2026, with FKF confirming that the 2026/27 season will proceed in compliance with the decision.
Mvurya’s intervention
The development coms shortly after Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya had called on stakeholders in Kenyan football to set aside their differences and work together towards resolving the impasse surrounding the start of the FKF Premier League.
Mvurya made the appeal on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, after holding a consultative meeting with chairpersons of FKF League clubs at Talanta Plaza to deliberate on the challenges delaying the commencement of the new league season.
The CS stressed the need for dialogue and compromise, warning that continued disagreements and public rhetoric could put the future of the league at risk. He said all parties have a shared responsibility to protect the interests of players and ensure Kenyan football continues to develop.
The meeting came at a crucial period for the country as preparations gather momentum for AFCON PAMOJA 2027, which Kenya will co-host. Mvurya noted that having a functioning domestic league is essential to creating the right environment for players to develop and for the country to adequately prepare for major international competitions.
“I have urged all parties to rise above differences and rhetoric that could further jeopardise the league and instead embrace dialogue, compromise and the collective responsibility we have to safeguard the interests of our players and Kenyan football even as we ready our National Team for the AFCON PAMOJA 2027.” Mvurya stated.
