FKF Cup MVP puts PL bigwigs on notice with bold stance about Tusker ambitions

Football Kenya Federation Cup Most Valuable Player (MVP) Ian Simiyu has sent out a stern warning to FKF Premier League teams, declaring that Tusker FC is going for every cup on offer in the coming season.

The Brewers capped off a season of unique, resilient resurgence by ending a long trophy drought, securing the prestigious Premier Knockout silverware on Sunday, June 14, 2026, with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Police FC.

Speaking after the match, the former Nzoia Sugar FC ace warned rivals that Tusker is building a formidable team that will be hunting for all the titles on offer next term.

Coming for the titles

“Next season we are coming for all the titles in the top-flight league. So to our fans, I want to implore you to exercise patience. We are building towards next season,” he stated.

The attacker also attributed his brace-hero exploits to his coach’s tactical instructions while lauding the Frenchman Julien Mette’s overall impact since taking the reins at the Ruaraka-based club.

“I shot based on the instructions from the coach, and I got the goal. He had instructed us to try and try our chances from a distance,” Simiyu explained.

“The coach has changed things in mentality and confidence. We now play our game with confidence; we now play with a new belief and a sense of pride.”

Reflecting on the dramatic nature of the final, Coach Mette acknowledged the squad’s immense growth in overcoming hurdles.

Mette on Simiyu’s impact

“It was a tough match. We scored and conceded from a set-piece. I am proud of the players being able to overcome that and score a second goal, especially since we have struggled in the past when we conceded goals,” he added.

He also lauded the totally deserved win sealed after Simiyu notched the brace.

“Simiyu has been exceptional; every time I have put in a game, he has rewarded the team with a goal. He is a complete player and only has to work more in the gym to be stronger, but he has been good in his first season in the top flight,” the Frenchman said.

The triumphant ending saw the club collect the KSh3 million prize money as well as earn the right to represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup, taking over from Nairobi United, who beat Gor Mahia to the 2025 finals
