Kenyan striker Moses Shumah chases multiple records in first season in Zambia

By , March 13, 2026

The Kenyan striker is enjoying his first season in the Zambian Super League (ZSL) and has already made his mark with 14 goals in 23 games.

With the league race gathering more pace and the coveted Golden Boot and MVP awards up for grabs, there is plenty for the Kenyan to fight for in his maiden season in Zambia.

Already, the striker has bagged three league braces and one hat-trick, which came during his delightful electricity derby performance against Zesco United.

His brace against Muza in a 4-2 victory on Thursday, March 12, 2026, lifted the attacker’s season tally to 14, placing him at the top of the scoring charts with four goals more than his closest challenger, Albert Kangwanda, who is ranked second with ten.

The Kenyan has already surpassed the last season’s tally set by Congolese Idriss Mbombo and Titus Chansa, who netted 13 goals each.

In the campaign, Shumah aims to become the first Kenyan to finish as top scorer in the league, a feat that somehow eluded the legendary Jesse Were, a prolific striker in his own right, who dominated the Zambian league during his time at Zesco but only won the club’s leading scorer in multiple seasons.

For Shumah, among the accolades the former Kakamega Homeboyz star looks to achieve or beat are

  1. Beating his last season’s tally of 17 goals, which he scored in the KPL in 2025. Shumah bagged the 2024/25 Kenyan Premier League Golden Boot after scoring 17 league goals, the highest tally of his career.
  2. Becoming the first Kenyan to win the Golden Boot in Zambia.
  3. Surpassing the 20-goal mark.

Having scored 14 goals in 23 league games, the striker is also on course to surpass the 20-goal mark tally and record his best ever season in terms of goals return.

According to renowned Zambian journalist Puncherello Chama, the last player to score more than 20 goals in the league was Idriss Mbombo in the 2018 season, when he scored 20 goals.
