Kenyan fanbase excited as Charlton fan spotted rocking Sichenje merchandise
A rare photo of an elderly Charlton Athletic fan proudly sporting custom-made merchandise featuring Harambee Stars defender Collins Sichenje has sent Kenyan fans into a frenzy on social media.
The image of silver-haired Addicks fans proudly wearing a customised scarf featuring Collins Sichenje’s name and photo has left netizens excited.
The heartwarming gesture showcases the growing love and support the young defender has gained since his arrival at the club.
Fan favourite in the Southeast
Sichenje has quickly become a fan favourite in Southeast London following his January arrival from Serbian side FK Vojvodina.
The fanfare surrounding his signing has been hugely influenced by the unique outpouring of messages of support from Kenyan fans, which left a section of the English fanbase shocked—if not stunned.
One of them saw the fans storm an online poll for the man of the match nomination to overwhelmingly vote Sichenje as the man of the match following his debut against Southampton on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at St. Mary’s Stadium.

In a club podcast, the player revealed what it means to him to have so many fans behind him since joining Charlton.
“It is massive from the Kenyan people. The same happens when playing for the Kenyan national team—they always support me and show me the love. I don’t take it for granted, and I always try to improve in my game and represent them in everything I do,” he stated.

In what has become a trend following a Kenyan player’s arrival at an overseas club, the Kenyan fanbase has swarmed the team’s social media pages with messages of support and goodwill in a unique show of solidarity.
Ryan Ogam is among other players whose move to the European side, Wolfsberger AC, also elicited a similar viral reaction.
In Sichenje’s case, the viral reactions on social media have prompted fans to inquire about Kenyan culture and dig deeper into the country’s football craze.
One particular fan humorously suggested that the club start manufacturing and shipping Sichenje’s merchandise to Kenya, arguing that the move would make Charlton the richest Championship club by March.
