Kenya Lionesses name squad for Uganda clash in Rugby Africa Women’s Cup
By Joel Masibo, May 23, 2026The Kenya Lionesses have unveiled their matchday squad ahead of their awaited showdown against the Uganda Lady Cranes in the 2026 Rugby Africa Women’s Cup on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The regional rivals are set to face off at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi, with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 p.m. as Kenya looks to make a strong statement on home soil.
Leading the Lionesses will be captain Natasha Emali, while Maureen Muritu has been named vice-captain for the encounter.
Squad outlook
The starting XV features a blend of experienced campaigners and exciting talent, with Jane Chanya named and Knight Otuoma starting in the mix. Naomi Jelagat, Phoebe Otieno, Nelly Chikombe, and Marvel Oswago are also included in the lineup as Kenya seeks dominance against their East African rivals.
Naomi Amuguni and Sinaida Mokaya have also earned a starting berth, while Stella Wafula, Faith Livoi, Janet Okello, Tracy Montex, and Freshia Oduor complete the side.
The Lionesses’ technical bench has also named a strong group of substitutes to provide impact later in the game. Naomi Muhanji, Valentine Otieno, Jascenta Musakali, Charity Nillah, Maria Coretti, Judith Auma, Angel Salamba, and Yvette Okech are all on standby.
The fixture is expected to attract huge interest from rugby fans across the region, with Kenya and Uganda renewing their fierce rivalry in one of the standout matches of the continental competition.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Lionesses head coach Simon Odongo has called upon Kenyans to turn up in large numbers and rally behind the country’s national women’s rugby team during the tournament.
The high-stakes the tournament will feature top African nations including South Africa, Uganda, and Madagascar. Speaking as the Lionesses continue to sharpen their claws ahead of the continental assignments, Odongo said the presence of local supporters at the RFUEA will be vital in pushing the Kenyan girls as they aim to clinch the title on home soil.
”We are in camp with 35 players that we selected from the 62 women and we are preparing for the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup that will be happening here in Nairobi at the RFUEA Grounds.
