How Enoch Morrison’s influence has kept Gor Mahia steady in title hunt
By Joel Masibo, March 1, 2026Enoch Morrison’s influence at the heart of Gor Mahia’s midfield has kept the record Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions firmly on course to win their 23rd league title this season.
Morrison joins Gor
The Ghanaian midfield magician joined K’Ogalo as a free agent from Asante Kotoko at the end of the 2023/24 season, and since joining the Kenyan Premier League bigwigs, the former King Faisal player has been a key figure in the squad of head coach Charles Akonnor.
Gor Mahia extended their impressive run at the top of the league standings after edging past Mathare United 2-1 in a closely fought Game Week 23 encounter, thanks to a late winner and a Man of the Match performance from Morrison on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Nyayo Stadium.

With Morrison directly involved, the Green Army took control of proceedings early, dominating possession and dictating the tempo, a trend reflected in their commanding 63 per cent share of the ball.
Their attacking intent paid off in the 68th minute when Enoch Assifuah broke the deadlock with a well-taken finish to put Gor Mahia ahead. Mathare United, however, refused to go down without a fight. The Slum Boys grew into the contest and found an equaliser in the 82nd minute through Dennis Okoth, who capitalised on a rare opening to restore parity and set up a tense finale.
Morrison steals show
With the match seemingly headed for a draw, Enock Morrison dramatically rose to the occasion. The midfielder struck in the 88th minute to seal all three points for Gor Mahia, capping off a superb individual display that earned him the Man of the Match award.
Morrison’s influence was evident throughout the contest. He not only grabbed the decisive goal but also created two chances, registered three shot attempts, made three crucial interceptions, and completed four clearances.

Besides the Mathare United clash, Morrison has been a lynchpin in the heart of Gor Mahia’s team. The midfield maestro has contributed both to Gor’s perfect goalscoring record and also to providing important assists.
His versatility on and off the ball has also boosted K’Ogalo’s chances of winning the league.
In Gor Mahia’s emphatic 3-0 victory over KCB, he opened the scoring with a thunderous long-range strike that set his side on course for victory.
That win restored Gor Mahia’s six-point lead at the summit, with Morrison’s influence proving decisive once again.
He also bagged several man-of-the-match awards, becoming a darling to Gor Mahia supporters.
Gor dominate Mathare
Statistically, Gor Mahia were the dominant side, with Morrison helping the side to record 18 shots compared to Mathare’s six, while also enjoying superior passing accuracy at 88 per cent from 419 attempts. Mathare managed 244 passes with an 81 per cent completion rate. Gor Mahia also earned four corners, while their opponents failed to win any.
Despite being outplayed for long stretches, Mathare remained dangerous on the counter and caught Gor Mahia offside four times, compared to just once for the champions. Both teams received one yellow card apiece in a disciplined contest.
The hard-fought victory further consolidates Gor Mahia’s position at the summit of the league table and reinforces their title credentials with 49 points, nine clear.
