Harambee Stars pair Ian Otieno and Onyango claim crucial victories in South Africa

South Africa-based Kenyan internationals Ian Otieno and Brian Onyango were both on the winning sides for their respective sides in Tuesday, March 3, 2026, clashes.

Thulani Gumede’s strike midway through the second half proved all the moneybags needed to upset the SA giants.

The clash saw the former AFC Leopards custodian make an immense contribution, earning him a 7.2 ranking that placed him among the leading performers for the hosts.

Otieno’s contribution

The clash marked a fitting return to action for Otieno, whose last appearance for the club came in back-to-back league losses to Amazulu Football Club and Chippa United.

The disciplined defensive display saw Bay continue their league momentum, where they remain in the mid-table battle.

Meanwhile, another Kenyan, Brian Onyango, was also on the winning side as Orbit College claimed a crucial 2-0 win over TS Galaxy Football Club on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the Mbombela Stadium.

Onyango features for Orbit

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Maritzburg United centre back started the tie as the hosts took advantage of a first start to edge their rivals.

ORBIT College enlisted the service of the experienced Kenyan defender following their promotion to South Africa’s top-tier league in the 2025-26 season via the promotion/relegation playoffs.

The Kenyan made his league debut for the club on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in a draw against Richard Bay.

The clubs have, however, found proceedings tough and are currently ranked just above the drop zone.

Besides Orbit, Onyango has also featured for Santos FC, Maritzburg United, and Mamelodi Sundowns in the Msanzi nation.

Locally, he featured for Tusker FC before venturing out for his professional stint.

The ties come next fast for the Kenyan duo, with Orbit College facing Siwelele Football Club on Sunday, March 11, 2026.

Otieno’s Bay will face Orlando Pirates on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
