Gor Mahia thrash Sofapaka to keep a 4-point buffer at the top

Record Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia proved too good against a struggling Sofapaka, edging the team 3-0 in a lopsided league encounter at the Nyayo National Stadium this Saturday, January 31, 2026.
The win, courtesy of three first-half goals from Frank Odhiambo, Sylvester Owino, and Ebenzer Adukwaw, sealed a famous victory for K’Ogalo, who consolidated their lead at the top of the pile.
Gor are now four points clear of archrivals AFC Leopards, who missed Week 19 action.
With mixed news of injury concerns overshadowing the build-up to the clash, Charles Akonnor’s charges had little to worry about as K’Ogalo showed early intent and desire.
K’Ogalo’s cruise in the evening was sparked by Frank Odhiambo.
Odhiambo’s opener
The January acquisition from Sweden needed only a few minutes in his first start to mark his return to the Green Army fold with a goal.
The defender rose highest to power home a towering header from a superb Enock Morrison throw-in to storm Gor in front.

The hosts went two for the good 25 minutes in this time, courtesy of another centre back. The onus fell to Sylvester Owino, who planted a header home from Jackson Dwang’s sumptuous delivery.
Gor moves three up.
The tough proceedings for Sofapaka, with Ebenezer Adukwaw bagging his sixth league goal at the turn of the half-hour mark.
The Ghanaian stepped forward to convert from 12 yards after Shariff Musa was brought down in the area.

The hosts’ almost perfect first-half showing was only tainted by Patrick Essombe’s injury. The attacker pulled off with an in-form striker, Assifuah, coming on to replace him.
Bandi makes Gor debut
The tie also marked another milestone after the club’s summer signing, and Lewis Bandi also made his long-awaited debut for the green army.
Bandi, who crossed over from arch rivals AFC Leopards in September 2025, finally made his bow, coming on for Paul Ochuoga in a seven-minute cameo.
The victory eventually assured Gor Mahia’s recent league run stays intact, with Gor now moving four points atop the league standings.
Meanwhile, it compounded matters for Ezekiel Akwana’s side. Batoto ba Mungu’s free fall continued unabated, with the club slumping to an 11th league defeat.
The team remains second from bottom in the pile, with the danger of relegation becoming more realistic.
