Gor Mahia skipper rallies fans for Murang’a Seal battle
By Luke Oluoch, May 15, 2026Gor Mahia skipper Philemon Otieno has rallied the club’s fans to turn out in large numbers as K’ Ogalo seeks to edge closer to wrapping up the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League title against Murang’a Seal in a crucial encounter at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
The title-chasing Green Army will face Seal with the championship firmly in sight for Charles Akonnor’s charges. The club is now only two wins away from pipping perennial rivals AFC Leopards to the crown in what has been a protracted two-horse race.

Otieno took to social media to urge the fans to join the team and help them make the final push toward the title on a winning note.
“Green Army! Sunday is a call to battle. We face Murang’a Seal at Nyayo Stadium, and your voice is our 12th player. Let’s paint the stands green, roar as one, and push the team to victory. Come early, come loud, come proud!,” his statement read.

Gor Mahia heads into the clash on the back of an unbeaten run, having picked up a draw and crucial wins against Kenya Police FC and Kakamega Homeboyz, respectively, in their last few outings.
Caution over complacency
The captain’s remarks come just as head coach Charles Akonnor warned his team against popping the champagne too early as the title remains open heading to the final three rounds of fixtures.
The cliffhanger was extended down to the final three fixtures after Fred Ambani’s AFC Leopards beat Ulinzi Stars on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, to keep the log leaders within arm’s reach with a four-point gap.
In a message centered on focus and caution, the Ghanaian gaffer stressed that the club cannot afford to count their chickens before they hatch.
“We need to remain focused and have a clear plan for how we approach every game until the very end. We cannot be complacent and assume we have already won. We need to believe in ourselves and continue putting in the work,” Akonnor stated.
The former Ghanaian national team coach admitted his side enters the match as strong favourites but reiterated that they cannot afford to drop their guard.
