Gor Mahia patron Eliud Owalo has lauded K’Ogalo’s run, which saw the Football Kenya Federation Premier League outfit reclaim the league title after a year from Kenya Police FC.

In a statement on his Facebook page on Friday, May 29, 2026, the renowned businessman took pride in Gor Mahia’s fortunes and success on and off the pitch after the club cemented its dominance in Kenya’s football with a record-breaking 22nd league title.

Champions of the land

Charles Akonnor’s team was confirmed as the new league champions of Kenya’s top tier after AFC Leopards stumbled in their penultimate league clash against APS Bomet on Sunday, May 24, 2026, leaving Gor Mahia with a four-point lead at the helm of the standings.

“As the club patron, I take immense pride in this historic achievement, winning a record-extending 22nd league title,” part of his statement read.

Focus turn to CAF

The new patron, who officially took over the mantle from Raila Odinga, also hinted at the major announcement and plans as the club now shifts focus to the demands of continental football.

Gor Mahia will shoulder the honour of representing Kenya in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League games by virtue of being the champions of the nation in next year’s continental games.

With the responsibility comes its own challenges. Owalo has disclosed that he would share a vital update on their preparations and approach to the continental stage soon.

“I will also share the roadmap ahead and what must be done as the club shifts focus to continental football—the CAF Champions League,” he added.

Season finale

His remarks come as Gor Mahia aims to wrap up the league season on a high. K’Ogalo will host Nairobi United in the FKF PL finale on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Nyayo National Stadium.

The event will precede their eventual crowning as the new league champions, as the team also seeks to step up their chase for the various accolades up for grabs in the 2025/26 league end-of-season awards.

Among the awards the club will be contesting for are the fair play awards, the Golden Boot award, and the league’s best player in every playing category.

The finale clash will kick off at 3:00 pm.
