Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky has become a major talking point following his disastrous mistakes during the team’s 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 first leg on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

Kinsky, in for Guglielmo Vicario, twice lost his footing to gift goals to Marcos Llorente and Julian Alvarez—after which he was taken off by interim head coach Igor Tudor.

He was seen battling tears as he trudged off the pitch during the substitution that has left the football world torn between sympathy and awe over his handling.

K24Digital delves into a brief history of the keeper and his memorable moments on and off the pitch.

Kinsky’s early years

The talented Czech Republic shot-stopper, born on March 13, 2003, began his football journey at local club FC Tempo Prague. He made his senior debut for Dukla Prague in July 2020 at just 17 years old, quickly catching attention with his potential.

In July 2021, Kinsky joined Slavia Prague on a four-year contract. To gain valuable first-team experience, he was loaned out multiple times. He returned to the capital club ahead of the 2024/25 season and established himself as a key player, keeping an impressive 14 clean sheets in 29 appearances across league and European competitions.

Kinsky’s breakout

His breakout form led to a high-profile move on January 5, 2025, when Tottenham Hotspur signed him on a six-and-a-half-year deal. Kinsky made an immediate impact, debuting just three days later on January 8, 2025, in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final against Liverpool.

He delivered a standout performance, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory and earning man of the match honors. The tie became especially memorable when he was seen celebrating emotionally with his mother and family members after the final whistle.

Reaction to Frank’s sacking

Kinsky continued his strong start by securing a second clean sheet in his next appearance, becoming the first Tottenham goalkeeper in 101 years to keep clean sheets in his opening two games for the club.

Following Thomas Frank’s sacking by Tottenham on February 11, 2026, after only eight months in charge, Kinsky posted a cryptic Instagram message featuring photos of himself in a Spurs jacket and as a child, captioned “Heart’s desire.”

Struggled at Spurs

The post sparked widespread discussion among fans and media, with many interpreting it as subtle relief or shade directed at Frank’s departure. During Frank’s tenure, Kinsky had remained a peripheral figure, making no appearances as the Danish coach favoured first-choice keeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Sensing the growing attention, Kinsky soon turned off comments on the post.

The arrival of Igor Tudor as Frank’s successor did little to change Kinsky’s limited role initially, as Spurs continued to struggle.

However, he earned a rare start on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, replacing Vicario in goal for the decisive Champions League round of 16 first-leg clash against Atletico Madrid.

Unfortunately, it turned into a nightmare night for the young keeper; he conceded three goals in the opening minutes due to errors, including a slip on a goal kick and a mis-kicked back pass, leading to his substitution after just 17 minutes in what became a heavy 5-2 defeat.
