Foden agrees new Man City deal
By Joel Masibo, May 5, 2026Phil Foden has reportedly agreed in principle to extend his stay at Manchester City with a fresh four-year contract.
The 25-year-old, whose current deal was set to run out next year, is now expected to remain at the Etihad Stadium until 2030, with an option to prolong it by a further season.
Despite experiencing a dip in form in recent months and going without a goal since mid-December, the new agreement highlights a shared commitment between the player and the club to continue their journey together.
Foden recently featured off the bench in City’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Everton, a result that left them trailing league leaders Arsenal by five points, albeit with a game in hand.

He will also be aiming to secure his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the upcoming World Cup, although his selection is not guaranteed.
Having made his senior debut as a teenager under Pep Guardiola, Foden has gone on to make over 350 appearances for City, collecting multiple major honours including six league titles, a Champions League crown, and two FA Cups.

Meanwhile, manager Pep Guardiola has said City will keep fighting for the Premier League despite losing control of the title race following our 3-3 draw with Everton on Monday night, May 4, 2026. City are now five points behind leaders Arsenal with a game in hand after our draw on our first trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s men could have slipped further behind, but battled back from being 3-1 down with Jeremy Doku scoring a superb 97th minute equaliser.

“It’s better to have a point than no point. It would be better to win the game than have the point,” Guardiola said after the match. Many things happened. We know the difficulty of the opponent, they are incredibly aggressive. We were there in the first half and exceptional, then in the second half they make a step up. We played with good process but maybe not the intention we had in the first half,” he added.
