FKF launches football tournament with staggering Ksh5M prize money in Machakos

A whopping Ksh5 million in prize money will be up for grabs as Football Kenya Federation Machakos County Branch rolls out the Capt. Irene Ndanu Soccer Summit, a far-reaching grassroots football programme aimed at talent development and inclusive participation across Machakos County.
Anchored by a countywide tournament, the initiative will involve 480 teams and over 9,600 players from all 40 wards, making it one of the largest grassroots football projects in the region. The competition is set to provide a vital pathway for talent identification, structured player development, and enhanced community engagement through sport.
Programme’s value
Valued at a total of Ksh20 million, the programme extends beyond the pitch. In addition to the Ksh5 million prize fund, the investment covers full playing kits and essential match equipment to ensure quality competition.

Following the launch on Friday, February 27, 2026, Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed said: ”This massive tournament is made possible by a strategic partnership between FKF Machakos County Branch and Captain Irene Ndanu that will also see the winners benefit from financial literacy programs and the coaches from technical capacity-building,” Mohammed confirmed.
Prize structure
Overall winners in the Men’s and Women’s categories will walk away with Ksh1 million, runners-up Ksh500, 3rd Ksh250, 000, 4th Ksh100,000. Sub-County Level winners, Men and Women, will pocket Ksh50, 000, 2nd Ksh25,000 and 3rd Ksh15, 000.
”Congratulations to Captain Irene Ndanu and FKF Machakos Branch for this significant partnership that will bring together competition, development and governance under one coordinated framework.” The FKF boss said. In attendance at the launch was Capt. Irene Ndanu, FKF SG Dennis Gicheru, NEC Members Ahmedqadar Dabar, Charles Njagi and Branch Chairmen Abdi Noor, Dickson Doyo and Abdinasir Mohammed.

The initiative also incorporates key development pillars such as coach training, youth financial literacy education, governance capacity-building, and targeted interventions to boost women’s participation in football.
As the tournament kicks off, the Capt. Irene Ndanu Soccer Summit is expected to set a new standard for county-based football development, providing a blueprint that could be replicated nationwide to fast-track the growth of the game at grassroots level.
