Harambee Stars will face Grenada this Monday, March 30, 2026, in the third-place playoff of the FIFA Series at the Amahoro Stadium.

The encounter comes three days after Kenya suffered late penalty heartbreak against Estonia, forcing them to contend for third place at the expense of the Estonians, who will now face Rwanda in the series final.

Rankings’ ranking implication

The clash against Grenada carries significant weight, as it is certain to influence Kenya’s position in the next FIFA rankings.

After the 1-1 draw in regular time against Estonia, Benni McCarthy desperately needs a win to avoid dropping further in the ranks. This follows Rwanda’s (ranked 124th) 4-0 victory over Grenada (ranked 174th) in the other semi-final tie.

AFCON 2027 build-up

For Harambee Stars players the tournament presents an opportunity to work their case for berths in McCarthy’s team and long-term plan as we head to the AFCON games.

The matches allow the technical bench to assess players, strengthen team chemistry, and test the squad against varied playing styles as preparations for the continental showpiece—to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania—gather pace.

Ogam chasing the number

Harambee Stars striker Ryan Ogam seeks to extend his fine form for the national team during the FIFA Series this Monday, March 30, 2026.

Ogam scored his eighth international goal in the draw vs. Estonia. The attacker has scored five goals in his last four international appearances ahead of today’s fixture.

Team rotation

With certain players failing to feature in the Estonia clash, fringe stars could get their chance to impress the bench against the Grenadian side.

Among those hopeful for minutes are locally based stars who remained unused on Friday, including Gor Mahia’s Alpha Onyango, Mike Kibwage, and goalkeepers Brian Bwire and Faruk Shikalo. On the professional front, Duke Abuya and Clarke Oduor will also be looking to make an impact.

Job fitness test

Injury concerns hit the Stars’ camp during Friday’s encounter as Job Ochieng limped out of the game against Estonia.

The Spain-based striker was forced off midway through the match, and it remains to be seen if he will be fit to return to the squad.

His injury is also a concern for his club in Spain, where he has been in fine form. The versatile ace, who can be deployed on the flank or as a main striker, is quickly cementing his place in the Kenyan team for the 2027 AFCON.

Fans’ reactions

For an umpteenth time, an air of measured displeasure greeted the national team’s call-up, with a section of fans and football stakeholders questioning the selection criteria. With the criticism gaining relevance after the loss to Estonia, the trend is likely to continue after the result of the third-place playoff.

Benni McCarthy and his team have the sole task of quelling the simmering displeasure with the positive routine from the game

The clash kicks off at 5:00 pm
