Tottenham confirm acquisition of former Liverpool defender Andy Robertson

Liverpool’s out-of-contract defender Andy Robertson has been unveiled by Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the 2026/27 season.
In a statement on the club portal on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the Scottish left-back kicked off his pre-season with Spurs at their Hotspur Way training grounds after representing Scotland in the 2026 World Cup.
Liverpool’s exit
Robertson joined Spurs after the London club fended off interest from Juventus, who also wanted to sign the marauding left-back.
He was among the departing Reds legends alongside Mohammed Salah, who were treated to a guard of honour from their teammates after the Premier League finale draw with Brentford, bringing an emotional end to his nine-year spell at Anfield
Robbo, as he is affectionately known by his peers, signed for Liverpool from the Championship outfit Hull City. The Scotland skipper went on to make 378 appearances, in which he scored 14 goals and 69 assists through nine unforgettable seasons at the Merseyside club, headlined by Jurgen Klopp’s golden era.
At the international level, he is a veteran, with Scotland having skippered the team for more than a year now.
Spurs adventure
“I cannot wait to play for you guys and meet you guys. I am motivated to play in the stadium, and I look forward to meeting you next season,” his quick message to the fans while in North America for the World Cup said.

He joins the massively restructuring team after the club narrowly avoided relegation in the 2026 season following Roberto De Zerbi’s late rescuing acts.
Marcos Senesi (from Bournemouth), Mateus Fernandes, and Italian midfield dynamo, Sandro Tonali, are among the new arrivals at North London ahead of the next season.
