Manchester United confirm departure of goalkeeper to Celta Vigo

Manchester United have confirmed that goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has joined Celta Vigo on an initial loan deal.
In a statement on Friday, August 7, 2026, the English giants confirmed the keeper will be heading out, albeit on loan.
The Turkish player started the concluded season as United’s first-choice goalkeeper when Ruben Amorim axed Andre Onana from his plans, but he lost his place to Senne Lammens and was not involved for the remainder of the campaign.
Deal sealed
The Spanish side also has the option to buy the Turkey international. The La Liga club will, however, cover the keeper’s salary, and United is also set to benefit from payments due if performance clauses are met.
“Altay Bayindir will spend the 2026/27 campaign on loan at Celta Vigo,” the club said.
The deal comes after Radek Vitek also left the Manchester club to join the Championship side, Middlesbrough, on a permanent deal on August 5, 2026.
The Czech goalkeeper has been part of Michael Carrick’s preseason squad and featured in clashes against Wrexham before leaving out.
He was among the group of Carrington Academy graduates primed for moves away from the club either on a permanent basis or on loan deals. Others included Dan Gore, Toby Colyer, and Harry Amass.
Young goalkeeper Elyh Harrison has officially completed a season-long loan move to Scottish side Greenock Morton for the 2026-27 campaign. The move is expected to provide the academy graduate with valuable first-team experience.
As the summer transfer window progresses, Manchester United continue to monitor multiple targets while evaluating offers for several members of Carrick’s squad, with further movement expected in the coming weeks.
Transfer targets
The left-back position remains a key priority target, and the club has lined up several targets. Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall, 21, a former Chelsea academy graduate, is among those in line, while the club also assesses alternatives.
According to TEAMtalk, Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas has emerged as a leading option if United fail to complete a deal for Hall. The 19-year-old impressed United’s scouting network during Spain’s successful UEFA European Under-19 Championship campaign and played an integral role in Racing Santander’s Segunda División title win and promotion.
Under Carrick’s tutelage, the Red Devils secured third place in the Premier League last season, a finish that ensured Champions League qualification following a difficult start to the campaign.
