By , August 8, 2026

Arsenal’s new signing Bruno Guimaraes has expressed his pleasure with joining the London giants following his confirmation of his move to the Emirates on Saturday, August 8, 2026.

In an interview with Arsenal afterwards, the former Newcastle United skipper said he felt he needed a new challenge after his move to the Magpies in January 2022.

The former Lyon man proved to be a pivotal cog of the team’s resurgence under former head coach Eddie Howe, becoming the first captain in seven decades to lift a major domestic trophy for Newcastle when they defeated Liverpool in the 2025 EFL Cup final.

Conversations with Arteta and Berta

The Brazil midfielder has admitted wanting to join Arsenal after his first meeting with their manager, Mikel Arerta, and sporting director, Andrea Berta.

“Since the first time I spoke to Berta and Mikel, I was excited. I just felt inside of me that I need a new challenge in my life, and I think to be an Arsenal player is going to be an exciting challenge in my life,” he told Arsenal’s website.

He also described the ambition to hel Arsenal win more trophies as another target as he seeks to help the Gunners and Nikel Arteta’s team in their ambitious pursuit of a back-to-back Premier League crowns.

“After playing two World Cups, I’m at the point of my life where I need a challenge like this. I want to win trophies, I want to make history, and I think I am in the right place to do it,”he said.

The combative Brazilian midfielder has joined the Gunners in a deal worth Ksh13 billion that will keep him at the club until 2030.

His arrival adds to a stacked lineup that includes Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, and Myles Lewis-Skelly, and he expressed optimism about forming a formidable squad alongside his new teammates.

Excited

“I am so excited to start. We have tough games to play this season, so the squad is going to be very, very important, and I am hopeful we can achieve our dreams,” he added.

Guimarães revealed that he has already received a message from Rice welcoming him to Arsenal that said “come here and please no more fights; now we’re friends.”

“I was happy he messaged me, but the midfield we have here, in my point of view, is one of the best in Europe,” said Guimarães. “Everyone is an amazing player. I’m so excited to start chatting and play, and know the players very, very well, but we have an amazing midfield.”
