Collins Sichenje’s injury adds to Charlton’s concern despite win over Hull City

Kenyan international Collins Sichenje has handed his team fitness concerns after being forced off midway through Charlton Athletic’s 2-1 win over Hull City in a Championship clash on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

Sichenje, named by Nathan Jones among the starters, managed to last only 28 minutes on the pitch before being substituted in what appeared to be an injury-enforced change.

The defender had only returned from the injury layoff ahead of the team clash against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday, April 10, 2026.

The club, seeking to downplay the severity of the setback, expressed hope that the injury wasn’t too serious, as the defender has battled a niggling hamstring issue in the recent past.

The January 2026 acquisition for the South East London club recently marked his return to the starting XI after an injury layoff. He had been the focal point of the team’s matchday programme when the club suffered a defeat away to Ipswich Town FC on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

Reflecting on his time at the club, the Kenyan revealed the massive support he has enjoyed from fans back home since his move to England.

“It feels amazing to have support from Kenyan fans. They’re so passionate, they love what I’m doing, and it’s something that gives me motivation. It shows how a lot of people believe in you, and I have to keep that in my mind and keep working because I have goals and dreams,” said Sichenje.

On a positive note, Charlton defied losing Sichenje midway through the first half, fighting to a return to winning ways following their previous defeat against Ipswich.

Charlie Kelman had put the hosts in the lead with a superbly curled shot early on.

However, the visiting side got themselves on level terms in late first-half stoppage time, as Josh Egan scored from a corner in the seventh minute of added time. Charlton eventually found what turned out to be the match-winner in their penultimate home game of the season.

The Addicks are now placed 18th in the standings with 53 points after 45 matches.
