Chelsea sack Liam Rosenior after disastrous spell at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea Football Club has confirmed that it has ended its working relationship with head Coach Liam Rosenior with immediate effect.
In a statement released on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, the club extended sincere thanks to Liam and his coaching team for the dedication and commitment they showed throughout their time at Stamford Bridge.
The club added that since taking over midway through the campaign, Rosenior carried out his duties with strong professionalism and respect for the role.
Chelsea further said that although this outcome was not reached easily, the club believes recent match results and overall displays have not met the expected level, especially at such an important stage of the season.
”Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment midway through the season. This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season. Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future,” the statement said in part.
For the remainder of the campaign, Calum McFarlane will step in as Interim Head Coach, supported by the current backroom staff. The team will continue pushing to secure a place in European competitions and to advance further in the FA Cup.
Meanwhile, the club will begin a thorough review process as it aims to restore consistency in the managerial position and identify the most suitable long-term Head Coach appointment. Kiam Rosenior’s sacking comes shortly after the Blues were trashed 3-0 by Brighton at the Amex on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, marking Chelsea’s fifth consecutive defeat in the Premier League since 1993.
