CAVB inspection team arrives in Kenya ahead of 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship
By Joel Masibo, February 26, 2026Kenya has officially begun preparations for the 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship, scheduled to take place in Nairobi from August 23 to September 5, 2026, following the arrival of a technical inspection delegation from the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB).
The advance inspection team landed in the country on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, to commence a comprehensive assessment of venues, accommodation facilities, and operational readiness ahead of the continental showpiece set to bring together Africa’s top women’s volleyball nations.
The delegation is led by Walter Aggrey Otieno, a seasoned volleyball administrator who previously served with the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) from 1989 to March 2013 before joining CAVB headquarters. Otieno currently serves as a member of the CAVB Sports Organising Commission (SOC), the body tasked with supervising continental competitions, conducting technical inspections, and coordinating preparations with host nations.
He is accompanied by Sadik Zaid Nasiwu, President of the Uganda Volleyball Federation and CAVB Zone V, who also serves as Treasurer of the Uganda Olympic Committee. CAVB President Bouchra Hajij is expected to join the inspection team later during the exercise.
Facility inspections
The inspection program has been conducted in collaboration with the Kenya Volleyball Federation delegation led by Deputy President Paul Bitok, who is also a member of the FIVB Coaches Commission and an accredited FIVB Instructor and Course Director for coaching programs.

On Thursday, February 25, 2026, the delegation held a strategic meeting between KVF and CAVB officials at Sportsview Hotel Kasarani to review Kenya’s preparedness and align operational expectations for the tournament.
The team later toured several key facilities earmarked for the championship, including Sportsview Hotel Kasarani and Stadion Hotel located within the Moi International Sports Centre (MISC). Stadion Hotel boasts 108 rooms, a 200-seat restaurant, a 60-seat grill room, and full guest amenities designed to accommodate teams and officials.
An on-site inspection was also conducted at Kasarani Arena, where officials evaluated infrastructure, competition areas, and logistical readiness before holding a technical meeting in the evening to review findings and outline recommendations.
Continued assessments
The inspection exercise continues on Thursday, February 26, with visits to multiple venues and hospitality facilities expected to support the championship.
The day’s schedule included inspections at Brickhouse, Park Place Hotel, the Ulinzi Complex, and Zamadel Hotel, followed by an afternoon assessment at Nyayo Stadium. The program is set to conclude with a technical meeting and debriefing session aimed at consolidating observations and guiding final preparations.

CAVB officials are working closely with KVF to ensure all competition venues, training facilities, and accommodation centers meet continental standards required to host a successful championship.
The inspection process is a critical step toward guaranteeing a world-class experience for athletes, officials, and fans, while reinforcing Kenya’s reputation as a capable host of major international sporting events.
