Liverpool FC head coach Arne Slot has underlined that his side’s immediate attention is firmly fixed on their upcoming encounter with Fulham FC on Saturday, April 11, 2026, despite a crucial stretch of fixtures lying ahead.

Seeking recovery

The Merseyside outfit return to Anfield this Saturday afternoon looking to recover from a difficult run on the road, having suffered three straight away defeats. Their clash with Fulham comes just days before a decisive second-leg meeting against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, where they must overturn a 2-0 deficit.

Addressing the media ahead of the Fulham game, Slot played down suggestions that this period represents a ‘defining moment’ of the campaign. “I think that’s completely normal in the end of the season,” he said. “It’s not only for us, it’s for all the teams these are defining moments and periods of time.”

He acknowledged that his side has made things more difficult for themselves but remains optimistic about their chances, pointing out that their European tie is still alive while also highlighting the importance of the upcoming league fixtures. “We’ve given ourselves not the best situation to be in, but as you said, Paris kept us alive so we’re still in that tie, and there are two massive, massive games in the league coming up as well and afterwards five more and hopefully a few more in the Champions League as well,” he explained. “But first the focus should be on Fulham and that’s where the focus is on now.”

Reflecting on their recent defeat to PSG, Slot noted that it served as a valuable lesson for his squad. “If there might be anything positive from the Paris Saint-Germain game, it is that we faced the champions of Europe and we’ve experienced that we were on that evening not at the level where we want to be; the good thing is that in four or five days we have another chance to show that we can be much more competitive than we were two days ago.”

He added that such experiences highlight the level required to consistently compete in elite competitions. “But it also tells us if we want to keep improving, we have to keep playing at that level as well next season – and that means Champions League football. If you’ve experienced that two days ago, you want to be involved in that again next season to show that we can do even better than we did two days ago.”

Champions League puzzle

Slot reiterated that while the Champions League presents another opportunity in a matter of days, maintaining strong league form is equally critical to securing future participation. “That chance, we get in three days. But we also want to have that chance next season and therefore we have to perform in the league as well.”

The Dutch tactician also hinted at possible squad rotation concerns, noting that recovery time could influence his team selection. “That’s going to be interesting because yesterday was a recovery day and let’s see where a few of our players are, because I’m also not telling you for the first time that not all of our players are able and capable of playing three days later another intense game. Let’s see what the line-up brings this time.”

Fulham head into the contest in strong form, sitting ninth in the table and collecting 10 points from their last five matches. The reverse fixture earlier in the season ended in a dramatic 2-2 draw, with late goals from both sides.
