Ambani warns of tough fixtures ahead after AFC Leopards’ victory over Kariobangi Sharks

AFC Leopards’ coach Fred Ambani has sounded a warning over an equally tough round of fixtures as Ingwe heads into the league homestretch.

Speaking on Sunday, March 29, 2026, after inspiring Ingwe to a famous win that moved them four points behind leaders Gor Mahia, the gaffer expressed hope that his charges will carry their winning momentum into the upcoming matches.

The victory over the Sharks marked the third consecutive time the team has bagged a 1-0 win.

Games ahead

However, the task remains uphill for the title-chasing side. Fred Ambani’s team will next travel away to face sixth-placed Murang’a Seal on Sunday, April 5, 2026.

“It was a tough game against a team that played really well. I really think it is an important win looking at the games ahead of us, and I hope we carry it from there,” he stated.

That clash will coincide with Gor Mahia’s date against Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday, April 4, 2026. Ingwe will then face reigning league champions Police FC before taking on Ulinzi Stars in their subsequent assignment.

He also praised the match-winning impact of lynchpin Tyson Otieno, who played a pivotal role in leading Ingwe past the Sharks test.

Tyson’s Influence

The former Sharks man came back to haunt his former employers, with his 57th-minute cross-cum-shot fooling Wekesa for the crucial winner.

“His influence really helped us in the game. They came keen to stifle us by limiting Tyson and Kelly. We responded to that by making changes; we opted to use Beja as a new strategy,” he added.

The Kenyan giants are seeking to break a long-standing domestic drought, having last won the league title in 1998.

Speaking of the victory, Otieno backed the result to inspire them with fresh vigour in their pursuit of leaders Gor Mahia.

“We are happy with the win. We are now much closer to the leaders. We also have the proper motivation to keep fighting in the coming games,” he stated.
