Aldrine Kibet in crucial push for dream promotion to Spain’s second-tier league

By , June 6, 2026

Harambee Stars and Celta Fortuna youngster Aldrine Kibet are in line for a promotion to the Spanish Professional Second Division League, the immediate lower league after La Liga.

On Sunday, May 6, 2026, Kibet and the reserves team will face off against CE Europa in a winner-takes-all high-stakes return leg tie.

Fred Alvarez’s team will be out to maximise their home turf and advance to the playoff final against the side that finished fifth in their group.

The first leg, played on May 31, 2026, finished in a 1-1 draw at CE Europa’s ground

Speaking ahead of the clash, Álvarez did not hide his optimism, stressing that they are experiencing a moment of maximum excitement with the possibility of reaching the second division.

Dream promotion

“I have been here for five years; this is the third playoff, and it is true (that there has never been so much excitement). I see a lot of excitement in people. We have to be cautious, but I think that being able to dream, as these players are dreaming, is free, and it is an incentive that we all have. No one is going to take the excitement away from us.”

For Kibet, the youngster will hope to extend his fine goal-scoring run with the team.

The youngster joined Celta Vigo on a four-year deal in July 2025 from the Nàstic Sports Academy. While he was primarily signed for the U19 (Cantera) side, Kibet’s meteoric rise saw him integrated into Celta Vigo B (Celta Fortuna) in the Primera RFEF.

Among his standout performances in the team is a remarkable five-goal heroics that earned Celta Vigo U19 an emphatic league finish, steamrolling SD Solares 13-0 on April 19, 2026.

The attacker bagged the five goals in a span of 39 minutes to seal an emphatic individual display. This record-breaking feat set a new personal best for the youngster, surpassing his previous record of four goals in a single match set back in March.

If the team advances and gets through to win the playoffs, Kibet will join his compatriot, Job Ochieng, who features for the Real Sociedad reserves
