AFC Leopards’ title hopes take hit after KCB loss

The match began at a blistering pace, with both teams opting for direct, long-ball attacks in search of an early breakthrough. By the third minute, KCB had settled, controlling possession and pressing Leopards deep in their own half
KCB had their first real chance in the fifth minute when Samuel Feargod’s shot was blocked by Elvis Ochieng. Two minutes later, he squandered another opportunity from a Nashon Wekesa cross, leaving the Bankers frustrated.
Leopards responded in the 10th minute when Ronald Sichenje fired a powerful shot that forced a smart save from Ochieng.
The first half continued with end-to-end action. KCB midfielder Dennis Kwenyu, dominant in the centre, had to withdraw due to injury in the 22nd minute, replaced by Rowland Makati.
Both teams had further chances: KCB’s Kevin Etemesi saw a goal ruled offside in the 26th minute, while Leopards’ Julius Masaba forced a brilliant save shortly afterwards.
Second half chances
The second half saw the Leopards push forward more aggressively. Kayci Odhiambo’s free kick in the 47th minute was tipped away by Ochieng.
KCB made tactical changes, bringing on Francis Kahiro for Feargod in the 54th minute to sharpen their attack, while Leopards introduced James Kinyanjui to inject pace and creativity.

Leopards’ Kelly Madada delivered a teasing cross in the 65th minute, finding Ssenyonjo, but his header sailed just over the bar. The home side dominated possession in bursts but were repeatedly denied by the KCB defence and goalkeeper.
Decisive moment
The deadlock finally broke in the 66th minute. David Sakwa rose highest to meet a pinpoint cross from Kevin Etemesi, sending the ball into the back of the net. The KCB faithful erupted while the Leopards’ supporters were left stunned.
Leopards continued to press for an equaliser but couldn’t find the finishing touch. Madada hit the post in the 86th minute, and Kayci’s late attempt in stoppage time went wide, confirming KCB’s hard-fought 1-0 victory.
The defeat leaves Leopards’ title ambitions in jeopardy, as the gap with Gor Mahia widens and pressure mounts in the closing stages of the season.
