AFC Leopards mascots add flair as Ingwe thrash Shabana FC at Nyayo
AFC Leopards’ emphatic 5-1 demolition of Shabana FC in an FKF Premier League clash on Sunday, March 1, 2026, was not only a statement of intent on the pitch but also a spectacle in the stands, thanks to the rare appearance of match mascots that added colour and rhythm to the occasion.
Clad in the club’s iconic blue and white colours, the mascots became an instant attraction in the VIP section at Nyayo National Stadium. Dancing energetically to popular Luhya tunes, they whipped up excitement among fans, turning the afternoon into a carnival-like celebration as Ingwe players dazzled on the field.

The vibrant presence did not go unnoticed by AFC Leopards Chairman Boniface Ambani, who lauded the initiative and acknowledged the mascots for the first time at a club match.
Rare experience
“Then here we come…I acknowledge their presence for the first time in our matches. Good job,” Ambani stated on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, expressing his delight at the new addition to the matchday experience.
Ambani, fondly referred to by fans as the “Duke of Shiseno,” also expressed delight in the growing number of foreign nationals identifying themselves with Ingwe, as he vows to revive the sleeping Football Kenya Federation Premier League giants both on and off the pitch.
”These two young men from Sweden came to watch our match against Posta Rangers two weeks ago. Got impressed and promised to bring a whole battalion to the next match…..he never disappointed. We just got a new following…they were more than 10 in the stands. The Roar is back,” Amabni said.

Fan engagement
Meanwhile, the introduction of mascots reflects AFC Leopards’ growing efforts to enhance fan engagement and transform their home fixtures into memorable events beyond the 90 minutes. Traditionally known for their passionate fanbase, Ingwe supporters responded in kind, joining the mascots in song and dance, creating an electrifying atmosphere throughout the stadium.
As the players delivered a ruthless performance on the pitch, the mascots ensured that the energy off it matched the intensity of the game. With the 5-1 triumph over Shabana, Ingwe, placed second in the league standings, revived their title hopes as they now trail league leaders and bitter rivals Gor Mahia by only six points as the title push intensifies.
