AFC Leopards duo nominated for March awards

Football Kenya Federation league sponsor SportPesa has announced the nominees for the coach and player of the month for the month of March.

AFC Leopards have earned two nominations in the month, with coach Fred Ambani and midfielder Tyson Otieno both named in a shortlist of four coaches and players, respectively.

Four wins

Ambani will battle out for the accolade alongside his title-challenging coach Charles Akonnor of Gor Mahia, Police FC coach Nicholas Muyoti, and

In the month, Ambani guided Ingwe to four wins out of five, carving out victories against Nairobi United, Kariobangi Sharks, and Tusker FC.

Most of the team’s wins came in solitary-goal victories, helping Ingwe extend its title prospects and pursuit of leaders Gor Mahia.

The fine winning run, coupled with a solid defensive record, has elicited talk of the club reclaiming the elusive title, which they last won in 1998.

Seize the moment

Ingwe currently trials leaders. Gor Mahia, by a couple of points after a period of sustained victories, saw the club cut into the ten-point cushion with fewer than seven games to conclude the season.

They currently rank as the closest challenger to league leader Gor Mahia as the league enters the home stretch stage.

For the players shortlisted, Leopards’ attacking talent Otieno, who has been in scintillating form, will be up against Robinson Musungu of Mara Sugar and Paul Okoth of Ulinzi Stars.

Okoth is also among the front-runners for the league golden boot accolade alongside top scorer Joe Waithira

Former Shabana FC head coach Peter Okidi was crowned the FKF Premier League Coach of the Month for February 2026.

The tactician, who parted ways with the club mid-March, was crowned the league’s best manager after guiding Tore Bobe to a perfect, unbeaten streak throughout February.

Kariobangi Sharks’ attacking sensation Humphrey Aroko was also recognised with the Player of the Month accolade.
