AC Milan seek derby boost to keep fading title dream alive against Inter
By Joel Masibo, March 8, 2026AC Milan will head into Sunday, March 8, 2026, clash with league leaders Inter Milan aware that victory in the derby could represent their final opportunity to keep the Serie A title race within reach.
The team coached by Massimiliano Allegri dropped further behind their city rivals last month after failing to win matches against Como and Parma, leaving them 10 points adrift with only 11 league fixtures remaining.

Milan’s narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Parma marked their first loss in the league since the opening round of the campaign, although a series of nine draws has slowed their progress significantly.
However, a recent 2-0 triumph away at Cremonese ensured they remain within striking distance, meaning a win could reduce the deficit to seven points.
Reports circulating in Italian media during the week claimed Allegri could be in line to take over at Real Madrid, replacing interim boss Alvaro Arbeloa once the season concludes.
Inter in formidable domestic form
Inter have enjoyed a dominant run in domestic competitions since losing 1-0 to Milan in the reverse fixture in November.
Under coach Cristian Chivu, the Nerazzurri have recorded 14 wins and one draw in Serie A, strengthening their grip on the title race while also progressing to the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.

Chivu rotated his squad heavily for the midweek goalless first leg of the Cup semi-final against Como, making 10 changes, but he is expected to recall most of his regular starters for the return fixture.
Despite their impressive domestic campaign, Inter’s European journey ended prematurely after they were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League play-off round by Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt.
