Weatherman forecasts sunshine with isolated showers across Kenya on Monday

Kenya is set for a mix of sunshine and light showers on Monday, January 19, 2026, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department(KMD).

The agency has forecast mainly sunny intervals across most parts of the country, with isolated light rains expected in certain areas.

According to the daily weather bulletin, Residents should expect partly cloudy conditions in the morning, followed by sunny spells during the afternoon.

Some regions, particularly highland areas and parts of the central and western regions, may experience light showers or thunderstorms, though these will be brief and isolated.

Coastal areas, including Mombasa, Malindi, and Lamu, are expected to enjoy sunshine throughout the day, with only occasional clouds.

“Sunny intervals expected in the morning. Mainly sunnyintervals expected in the afternoon with a chance of showers over a few places.”KMD noted.

Temperature outlook


Maximum temperatures across the country will vary between 25°C and 38°C, with the hottest conditions expected in the northern and northeastern lowlands.

Mombasa and Malindi will see highs of around 32°C, while Nairobi and the surrounding central highlands will reach 27°C.

Cooler temperatures are expected in high-altitude towns such as Kericho, Eldoret, and Narok, with minimums dipping to 12°C–14°C overnight.

Strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected in parts of the northern and northeastern regions, potentially affecting travel and outdoor activities.

“Strong southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected over parts of Turkana and Marsabit counties,” the weatherman said.

Residents in these areas are advised to exercise caution, especially near open waters and elevated terrain.

City-specific forecasts


Major towns such as Kisumu, Kakamega, Nakuru, and Nyeri will see sunny intervals, with light showers possible in Nyeri and Nakuru during the afternoon.

Machakos and Kitui are expected to have mainly sunny conditions, with the chance of light showers in the late afternoon.

Voi, Garissa, and Wajir will experience consistent sunshine, making it a bright start to the week for residents in these areas.

Sunrise across the country will range between 06:22 and 06:47, while sunset is expected between 18:41 and 18:55, providing residents with plenty of daylight for outdoor activities.

The Kenya Meteorological Department urges the public to stay informed on weather updates and take necessary precautions during periods of strong winds or localised rains.
