Weather Alert: Kenya Met warns of rain, strong winds and cool conditions in several counties
By Valerian Khakayi, July 30, 2026The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has warned residents in several parts of the country to prepare for rainfall, strong winds, and cool, cloudy conditions between Thursday, July 30, and Friday, July 31, 2026.
According to the latest forecast, the expected weather conditions will vary across the country, with some areas set to experience rainfall while others will contend with cool, cloudy conditions and strong winds.
In its latest weather forecast, the department said rainfall is expected in parts of Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Kakamega, Trans-Nzoia, Vihiga, Bomet, Nandi, Meru, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Mombasa, Kwale, Lamu, Nyamira, Kisii, Kirinyaga, Embu, Murang’a, Nyeri, and Nyandarua counties.
Kenya Met also forecast intermittent cool and cloudy conditions in parts of Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Kitui, Makueni, and Kajiado counties during the two-day period.
Strong wind
In addition, the department warned that strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 metres per second) are expected over parts of Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kitui counties.
Residents in the affected areas have been urged to remain vigilant, particularly those travelling or engaging in outdoor activities, as the weather conditions could disrupt transport and other daily activities.
Motorists have also been advised to exercise caution on wet roads due to reduced visibility and slippery surfaces caused by rainfall. People living in areas prone to flooding are encouraged to monitor weather updates and take the necessary precautions to safeguard their lives and property.
Meanwhile, those in regions expected to experience strong winds, especially along the coastal and northern parts of the country, have been urged to secure loose structures and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during periods of intense winds.
