‘Sitasimama maovu yakitawala’: Wakoli threatens to snitch on Lusaka to EACC
By Yusuf Masibo, January 29, 2026Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, lashed out at area Governor Kenneth Lusaka for neglecting Early Childhood Education (ECDE) centres and their teachers.
The senator regretted that the centres were in a worrying state, citing poor infrastructure and a lack of enough teachers.
Speaking at Luya Primary School in Kabuchai Constituency, Wakoli said continued neglect of the sector risks jeopardising the county’s education future for the young generation.
“If you want the young generation to have a good education in the future, then improve ECDE centres as they are the foundation of learning,” he said.
The Ford Kenya senator said that since 2022, the county assembly has been allocating money for the construction of ECDE centres and the employment of teachers, but nothing has happened so far.

Wakoli threatened to report the matter to the EACC, claiming that one contractor had been awarded more than four ECDE classrooms to construct but had failed to deliver.
On Wednesday, ECDE teachers demonstrated in the streets of Bungoma, demanding the recruitment of more teachers and promotions to various job groups.
The senator, who is also the Majority Whip, wondered why the teachers had not been promoted yet, when funds for their promotions have always been factored into the budget.
“Where does the money meant for promotions go, because every year since 2022 it has been factored into the budget?” posed Wakoli.
He announced that he will conduct assessments in all primary schools across the 45 wards to evaluate classroom quality, availability of learning materials, and the overall state of ECDE services.

Wakoli also took issue with Lusaka over the collapsed pre-primary school feeding programme.
He said the governor launched the UJI programme for early learners, but it failed to take off as some learners had never accessed it.
“We want to know who was awarded the tender to supply UJI in our ECDE centres, because some young learners have never tasted it,” said Wakoli.
He said ECDE forms the bedrock of a child’s academic journey and overall development, adding that he will not sit back and watch as the governor mismanages the sector.
“I am urging local leaders, including Members of the County Assembly, to ensure that the learning of young children is protected,” said Wakoli.
