Section of Mamboleo-Kiboswa Road at Coptic Roundabout to close for 30 days

By , July 14, 2026

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced that a section of the Mamboleo-Kiboswa (A1) Road at Coptic Roundabout will be partially closed for 30 days.

The temporary traffic disruption will begin on July 20, 2026, and continue until August 18, 2026.

In a post on X on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, KeNHA explained that the closure is necessary to allow construction work at the roundabout. The authority said the project will involve removing the existing roundabout before reconstructing and realigning the affected section of the road.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of the Mamboleo – Kiboswa (A1) Road at Coptic Roundabout will be partially closed for a period of thirty (30) days, from 20th July, 2026 to 18th August, 2026,” KeNHA said.

The authority noted that the planned works are part of improvements being carried out on the road section. It explained that the closure will make it possible for contractors to complete the work safely during the construction period.

“This is to facilitate the removal of the existing roundabout and the reconstruction and realignment of the road section,” KeNHA explained.

Traffic advisory during the works

KeNHA has urged motorists using the affected route to remain careful throughout the construction period. The authority advised drivers to pay attention to all traffic signs that will be placed along the road as work continues.

It also asked road users to cooperate with officers who will be deployed to manage traffic around the construction area. The authority said traffic marshals and police officers will be on site to help direct vehicles and reduce disruption.

“During this period, motorists are, therefore, advised to exercise caution, adhere to traffic signs, and cooperate with the police officers and traffic marshals on site,” KeNHA said.

The road agency acknowledged that the temporary closure may affect normal travel along the route. It, however, said the works are necessary and appealed to motorists to remain patient while the project is being carried out.

“KENHA regrets any inconvenience caused and appreciates the patience and cooperation of all road users,” the authority said.

The temporary traffic disruption was announced by KeNHA on July 13, 2026. Motorists planning to use the Mamboleo-Kiboswa (A1) Road through Coptic Roundabout between July 20 and August 18 have been advised to follow the traffic guidance provided at the site.

The reconfiguration of the roundabout started after the recent accident at the spot, which claimed 19 people died instantly after the school bus they were travelling in veered off the road when the driver lost control.

The reconfiguration commenced on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority acting Director General, Eng. Luka Kimeli, visited the Coptic Roundabout in Kisumu to assess the performance of the interventions undertaken to reduce accidents at the site,” KeNHA announced after the visit.
