Ruto’s lively dance to ‘Anguka Nayo’ lights up Jamhuri Day celebrations

President William Ruto became the centre of attention at Nyayo Stadium after he was seen happily dancing to Anguka nayo during the Jamhuri Day celebrations.

Several artists were performing at the event on Friday, December 12, 2025, but it was this particular song that made him stand up and move with an ear-to-ear smile.

During Iyanii’s performance, Ruto was spotted trying to dance while seated. He kept his moves small, but his excitement was clear. His smile did not fade as he followed the beat from his chair. However, when Anguka Nayo started playing, he could not hold back any longer.

He stood up, faced the crowd, and began dancing with energy. At one point, he laughed as he moved to the beat, showing he was not afraid to reveal he had some moves too.

He enjoyed the moment for a short while before taking his seat again, still smiling. The performance created a light moment in the stadium and showed a relaxed side of the President as he enjoyed the music just like everyone else.

Why is Jamhuri Day important?

Jamhuri Day is marked every 12th of December to celebrate Kenya’s independence. It is one of the most important days in the country because it reminds Kenyans of the moment the nation became self-governing.

Every year, Kenyans take time to honour the people who fought for freedom and made it possible for the country to stand on its own. Many Kenyans also celebrate the day by posting messages, photos, and videos online.

Some share memories of previous celebrations, while others highlight what the day means to them. Every Jamhuri Day, you will see phrases like “Happy Jamhuri Day” across different platforms as people take part in the national mood.

This year was no different. From creative graphics to short clips of celebrations, Kenyans found fun ways to mark the day. Some even shared short jokes and simple patriotic reminders about unity.

When Ruto stood up to dance to Anguka nayo, it added a playful moment to an already lively celebration. His smile, the dance, and the short moment on his feet became one of the highlights of the day, fitting perfectly into the colourful nature of Jamhuri celebrations.
