PHOTOS: First contingent of officers deployed to Haiti fly back to Kenya

The first contingent of Administrative Police Service officers sent to Haiti in June 2024 has finally landed in Kenya.

The Administrative Police Service, in a statement shared on X on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, has confirmed that the team has returned after completing a scheduled changeover in the multinational mission.

The officers have been received with honour during a solemn homecoming ceremony held in Nairobi.

The APS has described the operation as a moment of pride for both the service and the nation.

Solemn reception ceremony

“The first contingent of officers deployed to Haiti in June 2024 touched down today, 9 December 2025, marking a smooth transition following the scheduled changeover,” part of the APS statement reads.

During the reception, the National Security Advisor to the President, Ambassador Monica Juma, led attendees in observing a moment of silence for officers who did not return.

According to the statement, she affirmed that their sacrifice “will forever remain part of the Nation’s distinguished legacy.”

The APS has also noted that Ambassador Juma expressed gratitude to Kenya Airways for its dependable service.

“Ambassador Juma further expressed gratitude to Kenya Airways, the Pride of Africa, for its dependable service in facilitating the mission’s travel requirements,” part of the statement reads.

Leaders praise returning officers

DIG APS Gilbert Masengeli has welcomed the team on behalf of the Inspector General.

The APS statement adds that Masengeli conveyed appreciation to President William Ruto and the National Police Service leadership for placing confidence in the officers to execute a vital international assignment.

DIG KPS Eliud Lagat has also commended the group, noting that their work will continue to create a meaningful impact.

In the APS brief, Lagat praised the officers “for carrying out their duties with honour, resilience and an unwavering commitment to peace.”

The return of the contingent has drawn warm reactions across the country, with many Kenyans recognising the risks the officers have faced while serving abroad.

Security analysts have said the homecoming marks an important stage in the rotational deployment plan as Kenya continues to support global peace operations.

The APS has concluded its message with a celebratory note: “Welcome back our heroes.”
