Outering Road: Traffic disrupted after KDF truck crashes, soldiers rush to rescue colleagues
By Steve Ireri, September 24, 2026Traffic along Nairobi’s busy Outer Ring Road was disrupted on Thursday after a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) truck was involved in an accident, with soldiers seen rushing towards the mangled front section of the vehicle as a crowd gathered at the scene.
Footage from the scene on Thursday, September 24, 2026, showed several KDF officers moving from the rear section of the military truck towards the front, where the extent of the damage became apparent following the crash.
The officers could be seen milling around the front section of the lorry as they appeared to assess the situation and assist their colleagues following the accident.
The impact had left the front section of the truck extensively damaged, with the passenger-side door appearing to have been torn almost completely from its hinges.
The windscreen also bore a large impact mark, while parts of the front cabin appeared severely mangled, providing a striking indication of the force of the collision.
The soldiers at the scene remained in uniform and were carrying firearms as they moved around the damaged vehicle and appeared to coordinate efforts to assist their colleagues.
A white car was also visible near the scene with noticeable damage, although the circumstances surrounding its involvement in the crash had not immediately been established.
As the rescue and recovery efforts continued, the scene quickly attracted the attention of motorists, pedestrians and other members of the public who gathered to establish what had happened.
The growing number of onlookers added to the disruption, with people repeatedly moving towards the crash site as the damaged military truck remained at the scene.
The situation became particularly difficult for motorists after the lorry was moved, with traffic beginning to build up along the busy road as vehicles slowed down while passing the accident scene.
What had initially been a road crash therefore developed into a significant traffic interruption as motorists attempted to navigate past the scene while members of the public continued to gather around the damaged vehicles.
The movement of the truck also appeared to create further congestion, with vehicles gradually forming longer queues as motorists approached the affected section of the road.
