NTSA conducts joint road safety inspections in Garissa, Kisii, and Nyeri

Under the ongoing #UsalamaBarabarani campaign, transport safety officers and traffic police officers have pitched camp in Garissa, Kisii, and Nyeri counties to inspect public service vehicles, private cars, and heavy commercial trucks.
In Northern Kenya, safety officers targeted long-distance passenger travel hubs to ensure public service vehicles meet all safety standards before setting off on long trips.
NTSA confirmed that “Safety Compliance checks on long-distance buses at Garissa bus station” were conducted, with officers boarding passenger buses to inspect seatbelts, test speed limiters, and verify driver documentation.
Operations along Kisii-Migori Highway
Meanwhile, in South Nyanza, multi-agency enforcement teams set up active checkpoints along key transit routes connecting major commercial hubs. Transport safety officials teamed up with local police officers to monitor passenger vehicles and cargo trucks moving along busy regional highways.
Officers at the Gesonso roadblock deployed tyre spikes to manage approaching traffic while inspecting driving licences, verifying road service licences, and checking overall vehicle roadworthiness.
Strict checks
In Central Kenya, a similar enforcement drive was carried out along the busy highway connecting Nyeri and Laikipia counties. Multi-agency enforcement teams mounted physical roadblocks at high-traffic intersections to flag down private cars, public service matatus, and commercial trucks.
During the exercise, safety officers examined valid vehicle inspection stickers, checked functional headlights, and ensured drivers adhered to basic lane discipline.
These coordinated roadside inspections form part of NTSA’s nationwide push to instill discipline among motorists, protect passengers, and bring order to public transport routes. The authority has urged all road users, including drivers, SACCO operators, and commuters, to stay alert, obey traffic regulations, and report reckless driving practices to help keep Kenya’s roads safe.
