Kenya Power shares what you should do if you notice a transformer on fire
By Steve Ireri, February 10, 2026Kenya Power has reminded the public about the importance of quick action when encountering electrical hazards such as leaning electricity poles, dangling wires, or transformers on fire.
In a statement shared on Facebook on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, the utility company highlighted that reporting these hazards immediately could save lives and prevent blackouts in neighbourhoods.
It shared that the key thing to do when you spot such is to remain alert and act fast by dialling *977#.
They emphasised that not all heroes wear uniforms or caps, as some simply take the right step by calling the emergency line.
“Spotted a leaning electricity pole or a dangling wire? Usipite tu! Your quick action could save a life or prevent a blackout in your neighbourhood. Not all heroes wear caps, some just dial *977#! Be that hero! ^LN #PoweringLives #PamojaTwangaa,” Kenya Power wrote.
Kenya Power further noted that timely reporting helps prevent accidents and ensures the safety of the public while keeping the electricity supply stable.
They urged Kenyans to view themselves as active participants in community safety, where a simple phone call could make a significant difference.
“Don’t pass in case you come across such incidents; immediately report it to *977#,” they added.

Fake Kenya Power staff
The update comes just weeks after the utility company similarly explained everything any Kenyan needs to do to verify a legitimate staff member before allowing them near their electricity installations.
The message came amid growing complaints from frustrated customers who said impostors had been interfering with power lines, illegally accessing meters, and even stealing transformers in broad daylight, all while pretending to be Kenya Power workers.
To address the problem, Kenya Power introduced a simple verification system that allows customers to confirm the identity of any person claiming to be a staff member or contractor.
The company advised Kenyans to dial *977# on their mobile phones.
After dialling, select the option “Jua for Sure”, then choose whether the individual is a staff member or contractor.
You will then be prompted to enter their 5-digit staff number, followed by their ID number.

A response will immediately confirm whether the person is a genuine Kenya Power employee.
If the details do not match, customers are urged not to grant access and instead report the matter to the company.
Fake workers’ havoc
Kenya Power noted that fake technicians have been moving around estates pretending to carry out routine repairs, only to disconnect power, demand illegal payments, or damage equipment.
Some residents also raised concerns about people accessing their homes under the pretence of inspections, leading to theft and property loss.
The utility firm reminded customers that genuine staff always follow official procedures and carry valid identification.
