Kenya Power lists areas to experience blackouts on Thursday, July 9
By Dan Kauna, July 8, 2026Kenya Power has announced a series of planned electricity interruptions across several counties to allow for routine system maintenance.
The power distributor released the schedule on its official social media platforms on Wednesday, July 9, 2026, alerting Kenyans to prepare for the temporary outages.
In its update to the public, the company stated, “Kindly receive the areas scheduled for planned power interruption for maintenance tomorrow”, to give residents time to plan their day.
The blackouts are scheduled for July 9, 2026, and will affect businesses, households, and institutions in different regions.
Nairobi and Mt Kenya regions affected
In Nairobi, the interruptions will hit major residential and commercial hubs between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm.
According to the notice, parts of Nairobi West and Kibera are on the list. In South C, specific locations like Kongoni Primary, Nairobi South Hospital, Bellevue, Popo Road, Kenya Redcross, and the Next Gen Mall will experience downtime.

Meanwhile, Kibera residents in Raila Estate, Soweto Academy, Kianda, Olympic Estate, and Makina should also prepare for the interruption.
The Mt Kenya region will also experience significant power cuts.
In Meru County, the maintenance will start earlier, running from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm, affecting Kaithe, Githongo, Mpuri, and nearby areas including Kinoru Minors. Residents of Nyeri County will face outages from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm in Othaya and Iriani, including Kihugiru, Nyamari, and Gitinga Village.
Over in Murang’a County, parts of Kahuhia, Mukangu, and Kiria will face similar blackouts during the same hours.
Outages hit Kiambu, Coast, and South Nyanza
In the North Eastern region, parts of Kiambu County will be affected. The outage will run from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, hitting JKUAT University and Juja Town. This will extend to New Wood Estate, Kalimoni, Star of Hope, and Kenyatta Road, alongside areas in Kiambaa, Zambezi, and Thamanda.

Down at the Coast, Kilifi County will experience a slightly shorter interruption from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm affecting Msabaha and Baraka Chembe, which will impact operations at Malindi Airport and Malindi High School.
In Mombasa County, Jomvu Jitoni and Jomvu Alidina will have no power from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, directly affecting Aston Jomvu EPZ.
Finally, the South Nyanza region has not been spared, with parts of Kisii County, including Nyamache, Borangi, and Igare, set to experience a blackout from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
