Kenya Power lists areas to be affected by blackout on Friday, June 5
By William Muthama, June 4, 2026Kenya Power has announced planned electricity maintenance that will result in temporary power interruptions in several parts of the country on Friday, June 5, 2026.
In a notice issued to customers on Thursday, June 3, 2026, Kenya Power and Lighting Company said the outages are necessary to facilitate routine maintenance works aimed at improving service reliability and stability across affected regions.
“Good Evening. The listed area will be affected by planned power interruptions tomorrow (05th June 2026). The interruption is part of network maintenance,” Kenya Power stated.
The utility firm noted that the planned maintenance will affect selected areas in the Mt. Kenya region, with both Nyeri and Meru counties expected to experience extended power interruptions during the day.
The exercise in both counties will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Nyeri County areas affected
In Nyeri County, the blackout will affect parts of the Muthinga and Gichira areas. Among the listed locations are Muthinga Market, Kiriko Market, Eucabeth Academy, Gichira, Kiangacha, Kiriti, Kiambuiri, Mutathini, Kiawaithanji, Gachima, Lilongwe, Ithenguri, Kangaita, Gondo, Mirichu, and surrounding customers.

“Affected Areas: Muthinga Mkt, Kiriko Mkt, Eucabeth Academy, Gichira, Kiangacha, Kiriti, Kiambuiri, Mutathini, Kiawaithanji, Gachima, Lilongwe, Ithenguri, Kangaita, Gondo, Mirichu & adjacent customers,” Kenya Power stated.
Meru County areas affected
In Meru County, the interruption will affect the Laare and Mutuati regions. The affected areas include Mutuati, Laare, Kambi Kairanya, Antubetwe Kiongo, Kieni Kia Muti, Karama Market, Nkoe, Athawene, Mea, Kanuni, Kamukuji, Nkamathi, Mariri, Niaikuriu, Tuuru Mission, Ithata, Kamweline, Kaelo Technical Training Institute, China State Construction Lot 1, and adjacent customers.
“Affected Areas: Mutuati, Laare, Kambi Kairanya, Antubetwe Kiongo, Kieni Kia Muti, Karama Mkt, Nkoe, Athawene, Mea, Kanuni, Kamukuji, Nkamathi, Mariri, Niaikuriu, Tuuru Mission, Ithata, Kamweline, Kaelo Technical Training Institute, China State Construction Lot 1 & adjacent customers” the company said.
