Kenya Power lists areas facing planned outages on Thursday, September 10
By Dan Kauna, September 9, 2026Kenya Power has announced planned power interruptions set to affect several counties on Thursday, September 10, 2026, as part of routine network maintenance.
The notice, shared on the utility provider’s X account on Wednesday evening, listed the affected zones across seven regions.
Nairobi, Mt Kenya and North Rift take the hit
In Nairobi, outages will affect part of Hardy and Karen, including Safe Park Estate, Mutty Court and the Shell petrol station along Kerarapon. Spring Valley will also go dark, covering the section of Peponi Road between General Mathenge and Thigiri Ridge junctions, plus Peponi Gardens.
Bamburi Road and part of Enterprise Road, including the Industrial Area and the Nairobi Prison, complete the Nairobi list.
All these run from 9 am to 5 pm.
In the Mt Kenya region, parts of Nyeri County under the Kiriani and Kamacharia zone will lose power for the same nine hours, affecting markets such as Kora, Mananga and Kamacharia, along with Thuita and Kaharo dispensary.
Up north, Torochmoi and Mosop in Uasin Gishu County face the longest outage of the day, running from 9 am to 6 pm.
Western, Nyanza, Kiambu, Kitui and the coast follow
Kisumu County’s Chemelil area, including Chemelil Sugar Factory and Simba petrol station, will be off from 9 am to 5 pm.
In South Nyanza, Migori County’s Wasio and God Jope zone starts earlier, at 8.30 am, while Kisii County’s Kiogoro and Itumbe area, covering several tea buying centres, follows the standard 9 am to 5 pm window.
Kiambu County has two separate outage zones. The Murera Sisal, Jujafarm and Athi area takes in Juja Farm and Jujafarm Polytechnic, while the PCEA Hospital Kikuyu zone covers Alliance High School, Alliance Girls and Thogoto Teachers Training College.
Both run from 9 am to 5 pm.
Kitui County’s Kithumula and Musengo markets are also listed for the same hours.
At the coast, parts of Watamu and Turtle Bay in Kilifi County, including Turtle Bay Hotel and Ocean Sport, will experience a blackout, as will parts of Nyali in Mombasa County, covering Lido Beach Hotel, Nyali City Mall and several apartment blocks along the first to fifth avenues.
Both areas run from 9 am to 5 pm.
Kenya Power has urged residents and businesses within the listed zones, along with adjacent customers, to plan around the outage. The firm also cautions that power may be restored before the stated time without further notice, so all lines should be treated as live throughout the day.
