Kenya Power announces planned power outages in parts of 9 counties on Thursday, August 20

Kenya Power has notified customers of scheduled electricity supply disruptions in parts of nine counties on August 20, 2026, to allow for routine system maintenance.

The planned blackouts will affect residential estates, schools, health facilities, and business premises across Nairobi, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, Laikipia, Kiambu, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, and Kwale counties. Most affected areas will lose power between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Nairobi and Rift Valley areas affected

In Nairobi, residents living along Lang’ata Road and parts of South C will have no electricity from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Locations on the list include Kabiyet Estate, Civil Servants Estate, Akiba 100, Funguo Estate, Dam Estate, Texas Cancer Centre, Kwetu Hostel, and Uhuru AP Camp.

Schools such as Jonathan Gloag School, White Star Academy, and Muslim Academy will also be affected.

In Nakuru County, power will be switched off in Njoro and Egerton from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Areas affected include Egerton University, Egerton Sacco, Bliss Flora, Sojamini Flowers, and Mauche.

In Uasin Gishu County, Kosachei and Manzini will experience power cuts between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Outages will also hit Choimim Tea Factory, Siwo Secondary School, and Rehema Academy from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Western, Mt Kenya, and Coast region shutdowns

In Kisumu County, electricity will be turned off in Katungu from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and in Opepo from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Locations affected include Gatungu Primary School, Kencel Towers, and Kisumu Concrete.

In the Mt Kenya region, outages running from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm will affect Solio Ranch, Solio Lodge, Ihururu, Nyamakuyu, Gathungururu, and Tambaya. In Laikipia County, Chumvi and Doldo will be offline from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

In Kiambu County, Sigona, Zambezi, Mugumoini, Hamundia, and Ndarasha will face cuts from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, impacting Muguga, KARI, and KETRI.

At the Coast, electricity will be off from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in Kilifi County (Marafa, Mambrui), Taita Taveta County (Godoma, Timbila), and Kwale County (Mvindeni, Kona Musa, and Diani Police Station).
